McFADZEAN — CHARLES JARVIS. Wilma, Rhona, Amie and Malcolm would like to thank all family and friends for their great comfort and support after the passing of their much-loved husband and dad, Jarvis. The expressions of sympathy in the many cards, messages and flowers have been most comforting. They would like to extend their thanks to the Rev Donald Campbell and the Rev Jeanette Whitecross for their services on January 29. They would also like to acknowledge the help provided by Co-operative Funeralcare in Johnstone. Sincere thanks to all staff at the Beatson Oncology Centre and St Vincent’s Hospice for their professional care, kindness and support towards Jarvis and the family during his illness. We are very pleased to be able to donate more than £1300, which was collected at the church service in Jarvis’s memory, to the centre and hospice.

  • my sincere condolences

I knew Jarvis well as a teenager in Kirkconnel. We attended Sanquhar Academy then Dumfries Academy , staying in the "Hostel" for boys from outlying areas in Dumfries-shire. We spent many weekends hitchhiking home to Kirkconnel (after the Saturday football match).

We lost touch when we went to University, and I regret not making contact a long time ago.

I visit Kirkconnel a lot these days eg dealing with memorials for my mum and dad. I met Willie Forsyth, now a butcher in Sanquhar, but also a "hostel" boy from the same time. It was he who told me the sad news.

I could go on at length but no doubt get a bit boring. I merely want to express my sadness, belatedly, at Jarvis' death, and my condolences. He was much too young.

I've never met his family ( although did know his mum and dad, and brother, Jim).

    Please accept my heart-felt condolences.

    Tom Smith
