In memory of PETER MARTIN HIGHFIELD 5/8/1961 - 27/5/2009 Former local man, Pete Highfield, died in his sleep of a massive heart attack on his Mum’s birthday, May 27th, last year. Many people in the Kendal area will remember Pete as a huge personality who touched the lives of his many friends and family with his humour and generosity. A real country boy he loved his award winning lurchers, was a fisherman, hunter, and a keen scuba diver. Educated at Stramongate Primary and Longlands boys, Pete worked as a mechanic and builder as well as spending some time as a care worker for the Kendal Mental health Trust. Always full of energy, he contributed to mountain rescue, raised funds for cancer charities and Help the Heroes, and loved his trips up to Murrayfield. He met his fiancee, Tina, on trips down to Colchester to see his mum Ilene Pratt and sister Sandra Wrathall, also formerly of Kendal, who now live there. He moved down to live in Colchester in 2005 to be with Tina, and had built up a successful building business before the huge shock of his death. He was Ilene’s ray of sunshine and a huge support to Sandra. As well as the terrible gap he leaves in theirs and Tina’s lives, he is greatly missed by his brother-in-law Dave, nieces Jenna and Sarah, their children Adam and Natalie, nephew Mike and Tina’s children Liam, Kirsty, Tanya and Gemma. “A light has gone out in the world but a new star now shines brightly over us all” Sandra, Sarah and Dave will be running the Edinburgh marathon on 23rd May in his memory to raise money for The Heart Foundation.
